Kuhl Men's Shorts Shift Amphibia

Review: Kuhl Shift Amphibia Men’s Shorts

A few years ago, I received my first pair of Kuhl hiking shorts and loved them, so when I was offered to test out a new pair of Kuhl men’s shorts, I jumped at the opportunity.  They have a number of new styles that I was interested in, but I decided to go with their new Shift Amphibia shorts to try out on our summer hikes.

Disclosure: I received these Kuhl Men’s Shorts for free, but was not paid for this review.  All opinions here are completely my own and an honest review of my experience with these shorts.

About Kuhl

Kuhl is a privately owned and independent company based in Salt Lake City, Utah, USA.  They have been around since 1983, when they began as Alfwear, and then trademarked and introduced the name Kuhl in 1994.  Kuhl is a German word that literally means “cool”.

Kuhl makes premium performance clothing for men, women and kids.

Kuhl Men’s Shorts

Kuhl offers a variety of men’s shorts in different lengths, colors and styles, from cargo and quick-dry, to active and travel styles.  I decided to test out the Men’s Shift Amphibia Shorts in Pirate Blue as it sounded like the perfect pair for our summer hiking adventures here on beautiful Vancouver Island.

Shift Amphibia Men’s Shorts

From Kuhl: The SHIFT AMPHIBIA™ Short is at home in or out of the water. Quick-drying and extremely versatile, these shorts transition from water to land flawlessly. A casual five-pocket design, comfortable stretch, and UV protection will keep you prepared for whatever comes next.

Material

These Shift Amphibia shorts are made of super lightweight fabric that has the perfect amount of stretch to it.  And I love that it’s made with SPF 50+ sun protection.

The sun protection combined with the quick dry performance make these the perfect summer adventure shorts.  They are suitable for hiking, hanging out on the beach, or even just a casual day outing.

Design

What drew me to these shorts was the fact that they are comfortable and durable enough for a hike but easily transition to the water.  The quick-dry material is perfect for summer beach or waterfall hikes where my daughter also wants to play in the water.

I also love that these shorts have 5 pockets so I can comfortably carry my phone, wallet and any seashells or rocks my daughter decides to collect along the way.

Comfort

As soon as I first put on these shorts, I was thrilled with how comfortable they were.  They are perfectly stretchy and easy to move around in, feeling more like lounge shorts than hiking shorts, while still looking stylish.

I’ve worn these on a number of hikes now, and even for some jogs, and I am just so impressed how comfortable and durable they are.

Sizing

These Shift Amphibia Men’s shorts come in sizes 28-42 with an inseam of 8″, 10″ or 12″.  I ordered my regular pant size and they fit perfectly so I would say they fit true to size.

As for inseam, I went with 10″ and they were the perfect length.

Final Thoughts on the Kuhl Shift Amphibia Men’s Shorts

The Shift Amphibia Short is another great design from Kuhl and will remain a staple in my closet.  They’ve proven to be an excellent pair for adventures in the mountains, beach, and even just for day-to-day wear.

I highly recommend these if you’re looking for a versatile, comfortable pair of high quality shorts!
